Donation Yoga Class: No More Deaths & Keep Tucson Together

 .

.

This is a all-levels (no experience needed) vinyasa/hatha yoga class. Join us for practice and growth while we support our community!

“Keep Tucson Together is an outgrowth of the We Reject Racism campaign. It was designed to provide legal support to members of protection networks and the community at large. Our primary purpose is to stop deportations. We work with a volunteer attorney to try and close cases through asylum claims, prosecutorial discretion, and as a last resort, launching public political campaigns to stop deportations”

Keep Tucson Together is comprised of Arizona residents working to keep families together and honoring No More Deaths mission to end death and suffering of migrants on the United States-Mexico border through civil initiative.

As a free, community-based, immigration legal clinic, NMD is 100% volunteer-run. Both NMD and KTT  have many ways you can get involved and continue to support their work…

  • Follow KTT on Facebook to find out when they will be hosting an orientation.

  • Visit No More Deaths website to learn more about their volunteer programs: month long, spring (1 week) and summer (1 week).

  • No More Deaths also has a listserv with one-time volunteer opportunities, you’ll still need to attend a No More Deaths orientation but afterwards you can contact volunteer@nomoredeaths.org for more information.

  • Donate! Visit forms.nomoredeaths.org/donate-supplies-or-vehicles/ for pdfs of supplies they are currently in need of.

  • Money, it always helps.

Donation Yoga Class to Benifit Owl and Panther

O&PFinal.jpg

The Saturday donation class for June will benefit Tucson's nonprofit Owl and Panther. As a local organization, Owl & Panther offers transformative experiences to refugee survivors of torture, trauma and traumatic dislocation and their families, resettled in Tucson. Through expressive arts, time in nature and service in the community, Owl & Panther promotes cultural celebration and exploration.

As evidenced by the University of Arizona’s Bureau of Applied Research in Anthropology’s 2015 partnership assessment, Owl & Panther’s specialized approach plays an important role in empowering refugee families from diverse backgrounds to tap into their own resilience. The experiences offered also increase skills of self-expression and critical thinking through multiple literacies. Additionally, they encourage increased confidence, empathy and self-love, collaboration across generations and cultures, and a sense of stability and community.

This is an all-levels, vinyasa flow yoga practice for us to grow and support local organizations and the work they are committed to.

Visit www.owlandpanther.org for more information.

Yoga Fundraiser: Tucson Indian Center

Tucson Indian Center.jpg

On the 4th Friday of every month in 2018 I will be accepting donations ~for causes I care deeply about~ in exchange for an hour of body positive, gentle yoga. My aim for "Fourth Friday Fundraisers" are to bring awareness to and show support for different anti-oppression movements in Tucson, while spending an hour nurturing ourselves so that we can show up more fully for others in our community.

May's recipient is the Tucson Indian Center, a nonprofit located in the heart of our downtown. TIC supports, empowers and advocates for urban American Indians by providing culturally appropriate wellness and social services. Since 1963, the Center has offered youth and elderly programs,
job services, education programs, cultural activities, housing services, and emergency assistance for multiple generations of American Indians in our city.

Come enjoy an hour of soothing yoga where we aim to release embodied trauma, reconnect with our own body's wisdom, and lean towards pleasure... While intentionally donating a small amount of our time and $ to an organization that is striving to preserve and strengthen the rich culture of Indigenous people, in a nation that historically has done the exact opposite.

Donation class for Treasures 4 Teachers

T4Tdonationclass.jpg

New season, new month, new donation class! It’s spring which means we are all (at least considering) spring-cleaning. This months Saturday donation class will benefit Treasures 4 Teachers. This local non-profit organization collects clean, safe, and interesting donations used to support Tucson teachers and students. Donating items that usually find themselves in the local landfills promotes upcycling, creative arts in schools, and alleviates some of the financial burden placed on teachers due to lack of funding.

As you start to tidy up gather and put aside items: old fabric/tile/paint samples, forgotten craft projects, random PVC pipes, bubble wrap (you kept " just incase"), books your child has grown out of, etc. On Saturday April 7th bring them to class (in place of $$) and know they will be given a new life, saved from a landfill, and will be appreciated by Teachers across Tucson.

For a full list of supplies Treasures for Teachers are accepting, check out this link: t4teachers.org/help/a/
If you have donations which are not listed, send me a PM.

In this accessible (all-level) vinyasa flow yoga class we will support our community, the environment, and the arts in Tucson while getting a nice flow on in the process.

Donation Yoga Class: The Coalition to Stop Gun Violence

csgv2.jpeg

This month’s Saturday donation class will benefit the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence (CSGV). This is a national non-profit organization working to end gun violence by enacting research-based policy changes and addressing the toxic agenda and “insurrectionist” ideology espoused by the NRA.

“We believe that all Americans have a right to live in communities free from gun violence. We pursue this goal through policy development, strategic engagement, and effective advocacy.” -CSGV

We (as of February 18) are 49 days into 2018, and have had a total of 32 mass shootings. There have been also been 18 gunfire incidents on school campuses. 10 of these incidents intentionally resulted in injury or death. We understand that facing gun control is an uphill battle (perhaps that’s an understatement) but Grounded Wellness is here with you. We will keep trying everything and anything- showing up at rallies, calling our senators and representatives, staying strong- while hurt, broken, and scared. We will use our feelings about these horrendous events to drive our actions and demand change. We will use everything we have- including our ability to organize a donation yoga class to support monetarily in solidarity.

This class is also meant to help sustain us by providing a space to share with our community, to support CSGV, and stand together in the shared belief that change needs to happen. This class will not be “thoughts or prayers” to end this, nor will it take the place of calling our representatives, senators, or the NRA to demand change. This class will support us by offering space to move and process our feelings in solidarity with our community, and the hope of empowering all of us to keep at it, no matter how hard it is.

Donation Yoga Class fo Casa Mariposa

Donating $5 (or more) may not seem like much, but collectively we can lend a helping hand to this important organization by simply giving the spare cash in our pockets, and enjoying a yoga class tought by Amelia Rustaey!

Casa Mariposa is a local organization dedicated to helping migrants and refugees in the Southern Arizona borderlands. They work closely with Mariposas Sin Fronteras, a local organization of queer and trans individuals who have been affected by the immigration detention system. Together they have helped thousands of refugees, migrant, and LGBTQIJ+ individuals who have recently been released from immigration detention. They provide essential support for these individuals in securing their release, providing housing upon release, and a safe space for a community to grow.

In recent months Mariposa Sin Fronteras has worked to obtain a permanent residence for both Casa Mariposa and Mariposa Sin Fronteras to continue their work. We enthusiastically support their work and ask you to come out December 2nd and support your Tucson organization to help ensure their work!

Yoga to Support Black Lives Matter Charlottesville

All proceeds from Jessica's 8:30am Tuesday morning yoga class at Grounded Wellness will go to Black Lives Matter Charlottesville.

It can be easy to not want to "get political" and turn your nose to all the unpleasantries in the world but people are literally fighting for their lives and for their safety. The racism and hate has got to stop. There are many things we can do to fight white supremacy and coming together to raise awareness and money for affected individuals is a good place to start.

Donating $5 or more may not seem like much, but collectively we can lend a helping hand to this important movement by simply giving the spare cash in our pockets, and enjoying a soothing yoga class.

No matter what body you reside in, we must support each other, stand up for each other. We must do what we can for our neighbors, our communities, our friends... everyone.
All bodies deserve the right to be unapologetically and safely themselves. In order to be able to give and help others, we must first take care of ourselves by showing self compassion and taking the time to recharge, and release our own trauma. Self care is not selfish.

Please share.
Please practice.

Yoga Fundraiser for Black Lives Matter Charlottesville

Tonight proceeds from Emma's ABRY class at Grounded Wellness will be donated to BlackLivesMatter Charlottesville. We, like all of you, am appalled by the acts of hate, violence and discrimination towards marginalized people that occured this weekend, as well as the countless times before.

  • Please bring your own mat! We have a few extra, but only a few. Also, we may run out of blankets, so if you enjoy extra cushioning under your knees or bum, bring one.

  • Depending on how many people show up, we may have to arrange this class indoor/outdoor style; some students will be in the Grounded Wellness space, and some will set up directly outside on the pavement (you will still be able to hear me and the music, and it will be blocked off for safety!). If you would rather practice inside, I suggest you come early.

  • The Metal Arts Village Tucson's parking lot fills up fairly quickly, so parking can be found on the side street to the north.

  • If you cannot make it to this fundraiser, you can still donate by writing Amber Ana (founder of Grounded Wellness) a check, or by messaging me for the credit/debit card option. Whatever $ comes in this way, or through the event, will be donated to BlackLivesMatter Charlottesville in one lump sum. Also, Jessica Luse's class on Tuesday (the 22nd) at 8:30am at Grounded Wellness is another opportunity for gathering donations!

Donating $5 or more may not seem like much, but collectively we can lend a helping hand to this important movement by simply giving the spare cash in our pockets, and enjoying a soothing yoga class. As a white, cis-gendered, able bodied person I recognize my priviledge in this society, and aim to learn more about how I can help dismantle all bodily discrimination. Donating the funds from this class is a tiny step towards the activist I would like to be.

All Bodies Rise Yoga focuses on spreading body positivy and mental health, as well as the ever crucial component that is social justice. We believe that as long as oppression exists for some, none are truly free. In the words of  The Militant Baker, "We have to realize that indifference towards the safety and well-being of other bodies is antiethical to body positivity," and that "the way we view our bodies impacts the way we participate in the world."

Come to class to soothe your nervous system, move through any difficult and valid emotions you may be feeling. Take an hour out of your day for self care, then return back to reality and show real support for all those who's rights and lives have been and continue to be disregarded and threatened in our country.
